Dr Sanjiv Petkar is an experienced Consultant Cardiologist who specialises in heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias), including palpitations (awareness of your heartbeat), syncope (blackouts), and irregular heart rhythms. He sees patients at Skyline Hospitals Coventry and is known for his calm, reassuring, and thorough approach.
If you’ve been experiencing symptoms such as palpitations (fluttering or pounding heart), chest pain (discomfort or tightness in the chest), dizziness (feeling lightheaded), or syncope (fainting/blackouts), Dr Petkar offers expert assessment and clear answers. He focuses on helping patients understand their condition and guiding them towards the most effective treatment.
Dr Petkar treats a wide range of heart rhythm conditions, from common problems such as atrial fibrillation (irregular and often fast heartbeat) to more complex arrhythmias. He performs advanced procedures including catheter ablation (a minimally invasive treatment to correct abnormal heart rhythms) and implants cardiac devices such as pacemakers (to regulate slow heart rhythms) and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) (to treat dangerous fast rhythms).
He is the Lead for Electrophysiology and Devices at the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust, where he established and leads a specialist service for diagnosing and treating heart rhythm disorders. He has also played a key role in developing national pathways for transient loss of consciousness (TLOC) (blackouts) and founded a rapid-access clinic to ensure patients are assessed quickly.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Petkar has published over 35 scientific papers and contributed to national NICE guidelines. Patients value his approachable manner, clear explanations, and the time he takes to listen and provide reassurance.
