Mr B Ilango is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, with a specialist interest in corneal transplantation and advanced lens implant surgery.
He began his medical career in Southern India before completing Higher Specialist Training at the Birmingham Eye Centre. His extensive UK training includes leading institutions such as St Paul’s Eye Unit (Liverpool), Leicester Royal Infirmary, and the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
Mr Ilango has an exceptional surgical track record, having performed:
· 400+ corneal transplant procedures
· 30,000+ cataract surgeries, including monofocal and multifocal lens implants
· 6,000+ laser vision correction procedures (LASIK/LASEK)
He offers a full range of advanced ophthalmic treatments, including:
Mr Ilango is a Royal College of Ophthalmologists Certified Laser Refractive Surgeon (Cert LRS) and serves as a Responsible Officer to the General Medical Council (GMC). He is also actively involved in training junior doctors and fellows, with his teaching consistently recognised as among the best in the UK.
In addition to his clinical work, he has contributed to ophthalmic textbooks and has been featured by media doctors including Dr Hilary Jones (GMTV) and Dr Christian Jessen (Channel 4) as one of the leading ophthalmologists in the West Midlands.
Mr Ilango is also committed to global healthcare and has established a charitable eye hospital in rural India, helping to improve access to sight-saving treatments.
